Headless CMS

A Headless CMS, or Content Management System, functions like a storage facility for your website’s content. The term ‘headless’ refers to its lack of a ‘head’ or ‘face’, meaning it doesn’t have a built-in method for presenting your content to users, unlike a traditional CMS.

Rather, a Headless CMS stores your content and makes it accessible for display on any device – whether it’s a website, a mobile app, a smartwatch, or even a billboard. This is accomplished through APIs, which act like delivery trucks, transporting your content from the storage facility to wherever it needs to be displayed.

This approach offers significant flexibility. You can employ any technology to display your content and deliver it to any device. It also simplifies maintaining consistency across different platforms, as all your content is stored in one central location.

A common application of a Headless CMS might involve using WordPress and/or WooCommerce for content management, while leveraging modern, responsive tools like Next.js or React for the frontend. This combination enables effective content management while ensuring a dynamic and engaging user interface.

It’s possible to expose WordPress content to the frontend using WordPress’s native REST API or by installing a plugin to support GraphQL.
